The museum tells the story of how the Wellington Cable Car transformed the city. When Wellington expanded rapidly in the late 19th century, the steep hills above Lambton Quay were difficult to access. The cable car opened in 1902, linking the city centre with Kelburn and helping shape Wellington’s urban development.
